Roller: How to set up the Abandoned Cart Automation
The Patch Roller Abandoned Cart feature requires configuration with Google Tag Manager and Roller settings.
Step 1: Create a Google Tag Manager (GTM) Container
The Container should be specifically created for managing the Roller Checkout and Abandoned Cart functionalities. Be sure to take note of the unique ID, which will begin with "GTM."
A new container can be created in Google Tag Manager at Home > Accounts > 3 dots:
Choose "Web" option for Target Platforms.
Step 2: Add the GTM ID to Roller’s Progressive Checkout Settings
a) Copy your GTM ID from your container
Your Google Tag Manager ID can be found at the top of your "Roller Checkout" container's workspace:
b) Paste the GTM ID in your Roller settings
Note: You can find the GTM setting in your Roller account from Apps > Progressive checkouts > Settings. Here is Roller's comprehensive documentation
Step 3: Add the Patch Abandoned Cart Script to GTM
a) Create a new new GTM tag in your Roller Checkout Container
b) Name your Tag
b) Select "Custom HTML" Tag Type
- Click the Tag Configuration card
- Select Custom HTML option
c) Copy and paste your Patch Roller Cart Script Tag to your HTML Tag
- From a new tab, go to Account Settings > Roller > scroll down to Abandoned Carts section
- Copy the <script/> code snippet
- Paste into the "HTML" input in your GTM Tag Configuration
d) Add “Initialization” as the trigger
- Click the "Triggering" section
- Select "Initialization - All Pages" option
- Save your tag settings
📍FOR MULTI-LOCATION ACCOUNTS
- Click the "Triggering" section
- Click the blue plus button in the top right corner
- Click "Tigger Configuration" section
- Select "Initialization" option
- Select "Some Initialization Events" option
- Select the "" option from the "Select variable" dropdown
- Select "contains" from the middle condition dropdown
- Type in a unique identifier from your Roller Booking/Checkout URL for the location the tag is associated with. In the example below we use "salt_lake_city"
- Save your changes
- Repeat a) through d) for each location. Each location requires it's own unique tag because:
- Each Patch HTML <script> is unique to every location
- Each Roller booking URL is unique to every location
e) Submit your GTM Tag Settings
When you've successfully submitted your changes your Live Version will update to a new name.
Step 5: Set Up Patch Abandoned Cart Automation
- From within Patch go to Automations
- Click the purple plus button in the bottom right hand corner
- Select "Start From Scratch"
- From your block menu on the right click and drag the Abandoned Cart block to your canvas. Add a segment to your block if needed.
- From your block menu on the left click the "Actions" tab
- Find the SMS block and click and drag it onto your canvas
- Create your content for your message. You can include Patch SmartText and Roller promo codes you have created previously.
- Enable your Automation
Step 6: Test the Patch Abandoned Cart Automation
- Open your Roller booking page and move through to the checkout step
- Enter the required details for first name, last name, email, and phone number
- Click Continue.
- Allow the designated wait time as configured in your Patch Abandoned Cart settings
- Verify in your automation that the Abandoned Cart block has triggered as expected. An easy way to tell this is by if the number on the top right corner of the block is greater than 0.
