How do I add SmartLinks in my email?

This guide walks you through how to add a SmartLink in each block type: Heading, Text, Image, Button, and Social.

SmartLinks let you track link clicks and measure engagement across your marketing emails—whether it’s a Blast or part of an Automation.

You can insert SmartLinks into any content block within the Email Editor. This guide shows you how to use them in each block type: Heading, Text, Image, Button, and Social.

General Workflow (All Blocks)

  1. Add your content block to the Email Editor canvas.

  2. Depending on the block, either:

    • Click the INSERT button (for Heading and Text), or

    • Use the link icon next to a URL input field (for Image, Button, and Social blocks).

  3. Choose an Existing SmartLink or create a New SmartLink.

  4. Once selected, the SmartLink will appear as a purple tag:

    In preview mode, this will render as a unique tracked URL (e.g., https://c-g.co/abc123xyz).

Note: If the SmartLink is set to untraceable, it will be the same for all users and sharable. Otherwise, the slug is unique per recipient for tracking.

Heading Block

  • Drag in the Heading block.

  • Click on the block to open settings.

  • Click the INSERT button > SmartLinks.

  • Choose an existing SmartLink or create a new one.

  • The link will be inserted where your cursor is within the heading text.

Text Block

  • Drag in the Text block.

  • Open settings and click the INSERT button > SmartLinks.

  • Select or create your SmartLink.

  • It will be added into the paragraph where your cursor is positioned.

Image Block

  • Drag in the Image block and upload or select your image.

  • In the right-hand settings panel, find the Link URL field.

  • Click the link icon beside the field to insert a SmartLink.

  • The SmartLink will apply to the image as a clickable link.

Button Block

  • Drag in the Button block.

  • Scroll to the Button Link URL setting.

  • Click the link icon beside the input to insert a SmartLink.

⚠️ Avoid using the INSERT button here—doing so will insert the SmartLink as button text, which is not recommended.

Social Block

  • Drag in the Social block.

  • Click on each individual social icon to configure it.

  • In the URL field for each platform, click the link icon to insert a SmartLink.

  • This allows you to track clicks on each social icon.

Testing Your Links

Before sending your campaign, always preview the email and send yourself a test to ensure all SmartLinks are functioning and tracking as expected.
