A general field is a functionality within Patch that enables the use of global text variables in SmartText. These fields are particularly beneficial for organizations with parent/child account structures, as they facilitate the incorporation of dynamic content into messaging. - Go into the Account Settings and select General Fields.
- You can Add a New General Field by clicking the (+) sign. These can be thought of as dynamic fields for the account.
- It will ask to enter the ‘general. Field Key’ and Field Value.
- General Fields are typically used with companies with multiple locations.
How to use a general field in messaging
To use a general field in messaging, you will need to access the SmartText feature located within the SMS or Email content builders. Once you are in the content builder, look for the SmartText option, which allows you to insert dynamic content into your messages. Here, you can easily select the general field you created earlier. By doing so, the system will automatically pull in the corresponding Field Value associated with your chosen Field Key, ensuring that your messages are personalized and relevant to the recipient. This functionality is particularly useful for tailoring communications in organizations with multiple locations or varying account structures, as it helps maintain a consistent yet adaptable messaging strategy.
