This article will cover how to set up a birthday automation that will send your customers a message / offer on or before their birthday!
Let’s navigate to the Automations module to get started!
Click on the ‘Automations’ module on the list of tools on the left hand side, and then in the lower right corner select the colored (+) button to create a New Automation.
It will open to a window where we can select from different options.
- Select the ‘Birthday’ option.
There are details that need input:
- Name the automation
- Select message type
- Choose Time frame to send message
- For the message type, you can choose from SMS, Email, or BOTH.
For the sake of this article, it will cover setting up the SMS portion.

- Choose from the list of available options for the time frame on when you want the message to be sent.
- If you would like a custom time frame that is not listed, this will be pointed out later in this article.
- Once configured, select ‘Create’.
There will be this confirmation window basically stating that each block will need to be approved.
Notice there are the Yellow banners above each block that says ‘Approve’.
Click each 'Approve' banner to open each block.
- The ‘At Time’ block does NOT NEED adjustment, only approval.
- The ‘Select Contacts’ block will show the date range that was selected
- This is where you can input a ‘custom’ time frame.
You can change the number of days in the highlighted field.
- This is where you can input a ‘custom’ time frame.
If you are ok with your already selected time frame, then there are no changes needed to be made here, only Approval.
- The ‘Send SMS’ block NEEDS adjustment.
- Choose the ‘Send From’ gateway to be from your default gateway.
- Create the text content
- Be sure to keep it under the 160 character limit, otherwise it would require two SMS texts to send the message.

- Once you have set up your message, ‘Approve & Close’.
- Once you have completed the configuration of your birthday automation, be sure to Enable it!
