If you’re looking to increase customer engagement, grow your contact list, or make inbound customer service simpler for your customers, follow these steps to create a Click-to-Text link for your email or form.
Write Your Default SMS Message
When Contacts click on your button, their SMS app will be launched with a pre-written message.
Consider who your users are, what they’re looking for, and why they’re communicating with you. Then go ahead and write your default message.
A restaurant, for example, may want to use the message, “Hi there, I’d like to place an order for…” Be sure to place your message through a URL encoder. To promote your Email Subscribers to join your SMS List generate a message for them to opt in.
Create Your Hyperlink
Now that you have the link text and SMS message written, it’s time to put the two together.
Start with sms:+1{textable phone number} then add a semicolon, question mark, and an ampersand then body= all with no spaces now you will take the content that the URL encoder generated for you and paste it immediately after the = sign all with no spaces.
When you are done it should look something like this:
sms:+18339218550;?&body=Please%20send%20me%20text%20offers%20and%20updates%20including%20a%20%2410%20off%20coupon%20for%20my%20first%20purchase
Once you have your SMS URL created, you will then navigate to your Patch account and go to the SmartLink module.
You will create a new SmartLink with the SMS URL you just made. You can then navigate to the module that you are creating the email within (Blasts, Automations, Templates).
Once you have the Email Editor and the correct email open drop a Button block onto the Canvas and use the link icon next to the 'Button URL' input field to then insert the SmartLink you just created.
Send yourself a test to ensure the message is populating how you expect.
